Since the election, I’ve been trying to think of ways that I can do something useful that will contribute positively, help me focus, and draw on my skills as a librarian and digital humanist. One of the things that came to mind was collecting data about the post-election statements that are being issued by university presidents, state representatives, religious leaders, professional organizations, and other people who are leaders or in positions of power. These statements are in support of their staff, faculty, students, and citizens with the aim to create a safe community in the post-election aftermath.
I’ll be writing more about this, but for now I would like to share this dataset, which captures the name of group or organization, source (URL to online statement), category, level, location, type, sub-type, date statement was issued, and then place holders for notes and possibly tags. This is a work in progress and so some column headings or terms may be updated as this develops, but I think it is important to release this and ask for collaboration from colleagues and the public who have seen statements of support for ALL people with the belief that our humanity is what brings us all together despite our differences. At some point I may put the data on GitHub and also explore ways of visualizing or analyzing it.
If you are interested in contributing to this dataset, please go ahead and add accurate data to the spreadsheet. If you don’t know all the categories, just add the name of the institution and the link to the source text. If you have feedback or questions, please feel free to message or email me.
